Brazil’s assistant coach César Sampaio has called on everyone to send “a prayer” to Pele, who is currently in a medical institution.
Edson Arantes do Nascimento aka Pele, a three-time winner of the World Cup who is 82 years old, is in the hospital. On Tuesday and Saturday, he reassured fans that he is “strong with a lot of hope.”
No matter your spiritual beliefs, Sampaio asked the World Cup audience in Qatar to pray to the legendary forwarder.
Sampaio, who played at Pele’s club Santos, added: “He has profoundly influenced me not only as an athlete but also as a person.
Even speaking to him was difficult because of what he represents to the world of Football.
Pele has been following regular treatment since having a tumor from his colon removed from him in September 2021, and on Thursday said he was at the Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein for a “routine monthly trip.”
The hospital stated on Saturday that the patient had responded to the antibiotic treatment for a respiratory infection and was “still undergoing treatment and remains stable.”
Pele had been undergoing a “reassessment of treatment” during this period.
Messages of praise have been sent from across the globe, and Brazil coach Tite shared his admiration for the former player on Sunday.
“I nervously shook when I saw him,” Tate.
My hands were perspiring, my heart accelerated, and I thought, “I’d be so excited to meet Pele.”
We all share a sensation of unity around this time. It’s a difficult situation.
Arsene Wenger, former Arsenal coach chairman of the FIFA division for global development, referred to Pele as his “idol,” explaining: “We hope he recovers soon.”
